Subscribe NowFor the third year in a row, the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Diversity Job Fair has successfully created employment opportunities in Indianapolis for a diverse set of students from around the country. Despite the difficulty of the current economic climate, the two-day 2010 Diversity Job Fair brought together in Indianapolis a total of 20 local legal employers and 78 students from around the country.
This year, as in years past, the Diversity Job Fair began with a networking reception for employers, invited guests, and students, which provided everyone with an opportunity to network and begin building relationships. The reception, which took place at 45 Degrees on Massachusetts Avenue, welcomed students to Indianapolis and introduced students to many local legal professionals and judicial officers.
The second day of the 2010 Diversity Job Fair included a full day of employer interviews and a keynote luncheon featuring Bart Peterson, former Indianapolis mayor and Eli Lilly’s current Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications. The luncheon concluded with the presentation of three scholarships to students participating in the job fair.
The Diversity Job Fair continued its growth trajectory this year and was successful in attracting even more employer, student, and corporate participation than in past years. Although there are many measures of success, the Diversity Job Fair’s ultimate goal is to connect talented law students with Indianapolis legal employers. While it may be too early to tell how many students will receive an offer of employment for Summer 2011, at least 22 students have received invitations to participate in second interviews. The mission of the IBA’s Diversity Job Fair, which it shares with participating employers, is to attract and retain talented, diverse legal professionals to the Indianapolis community.
The Job Fair Committee is currently soliciting employer and corporate participation for the 2011 IBA Diversity Job Fair. Please contact Caren Chopp at [email protected] for more information.•
