Diversity in Law Nominations

Nominations are closed.

Award Criteria

Diversity in Law will recognize attorneys and judges from across the state and across practice types who have contributed to efforts to diversify the Hoosier legal profession through mentorship, law firm committees, bar association initiatives, educational programs, and more. Diversity will be defined broadly to include racial/ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, geographic, and other types of diversity.

The highest honor given at Diversity in Law will be the Diversity Trailblazer Award. This award will honor an attorney or judge who has excelled in his or her commitment to diversity in the legal profession and who has inspired others to do the same.

In addition to the factors that are considered for the general Diversity in Law awards, other factors that will be considered for the Diversity Trailblazer Award can include:

  1. A sustained commitment to the promotion of diversity within the legal profession. The length of time can vary, but it must be clear that the honoree has made, and continues to make, diversity promotion a priority in his or her professional life.
  2. Leadership in diversity efforts. Nominees must be actively engaged in diversity committees, offering ideas, volunteering his or her time for events, taking part in mentorship programs, etc., with the goal of creating a more diverse legal profession.
  3. Creating a diversity initiative, such as a law firm/bar association committee/event, a scholarship program, a mentorship program, etc.
