Bankruptcy filings drop in Indiana, U.S.

Bankruptcy filings are down 14.4 percent for the 12-month period ending March 31 as compared to the same 12-month period ending March 31, 2012, according to statistics from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.

Indiana’s numbers are also down for the same period.

March 2013 bankruptcy filings in the U.S. totaled 1,170,342 compared to 1,367,006 bankruptcy cases filed in the 12-month period ending in March 2012.  

In the Northern District of Indiana, filings decreased nearly 11 percent from 15,552 for 2012 to 13,855 in 2013. In the Southern District of Indiana, filings dropped 6.9 percent from 22,924 to 21,332. Overall filings in the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals District Courts were down 6 percent.
