Former leading personal-injury attorney William Conour is scheduled to appear in court to plead guilty to a federal wire fraud charge next week.

Chief Judge Richard Young of the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Indiana ordered Conour to appear at 10 a.m. July 15 in Room 349 of the Birch Bayh Federal Courthouse in Indianapolis.

Last week Conour filed a petition to enter a plea of guilty six days after Young ordered him jailed pending a trial that had been set for September. Conour was escorted from court in handcuffs after Young revoked his bond for dissipating assets in violation of terms of his release.

Conour is accused of defrauding 25 or more clients of at least $4.5 million, although many attorneys familiar with the case believe the losses may be greater.  Conour faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000.

Contacted Monday, Conour’s public defender and federal prosecutors declined to comment on Conour’s petition to enter a guilty plea.
