President Barack Obama signed legislation Thursday ending the partial shutdown of the federal government and pushing back deadlines before Congress must act again to prevent a similar situation. The announcement from the White House came hours after the U.S. Courts announced federal courts would remain open through Oct. 18.

With the signing of H.R. 2775, the nation’s debt limit has been raised and extended through Feb. 7, 2014. The legislation also provides a temporary spending plan through Jan. 15, 2014.

U.S. Courts distributed an update Wednesday afternoon saying the judiciary would remain open through the end of this work week.

“The Judiciary has severely restricted spending during that period so that limited additional funding now exists,” the update said.

Furloughed federal workers were expected to return to work Thursday.
