As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowSt. Joseph Circuit Judge Michael G. Gotsch announced Tuesday that he will not seek election for a third term in 2016.
“When I sought to be appointed and later elected as judge of the St. Joseph Circuit Court, I promised to improve the court system through enhanced facilities, accessibility, technology, efficiency and teamwork,” Gotsch said in a statement. “When the new criminal courts facility is dedicated in the first quarter of 2016, we will have delivered on these promises, and I look forward to working with the other judges to fully implement the changes to the court system that this additional space will allow.”
Gotsch was appointed to the bench by then-Gov. Joe Kernan in May 2004, replacing Judge Terry A. Crone, who was chosen to serve on the Indiana Court of Appeals. Gotsch was elected to a full six-year term in 2004 and again in 2010.
Prior to becoming a judge, Gotsch worked in the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office and as corporate counsel for Meridian Title Corp. He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and left active military service with the rank of captain.
Gotsch said he is also very proud of the initiative to develop a civil protective order court in St. Joseph County as well as the staff of the Circuit court.
His term ends Dec. 31.
