The Indianapolis Star reports a Hamilton County judge ordered former day care operator Stacey Cox and her daughter, Kirsten Phillips, on Thursday to each pay $1.16 million to Conor Tilson's parents in their civil lawsuit.
Authorities said the child died in January 2013 at Cox's unlicensed home day care in Carmel after he was placed in a broken crib in a room with no adults and no baby monitor.
Phillips was sentenced in 2014 to three years' incarceration after a jury convicted her of reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter in the boy's death. Cox was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
