Strain was the owner of her own practice, which focused on family law, appeals, civil and domestic mediation. The Indiana native earned her law degree from Indiana University in 1997. She served as judicial clerk to Indiana Supreme Court Justice Brent Dickson from July 1998 to July 2000.
Strain was a past chair of the GP-Solo and Women in the Law sections of the Indiana State Bar Association. She chaired the Ask a Lawyer Project for the Indianapolis Bar Association in 2001 and served on various ISBA committees.
She is remembered as a good listener and good friend. She loved to read and was very artistic. Strain volunteered at school, church and in the community, often the first to arrive and last to leave.
She is survived by her parents; her husband, Gregory D. Strain; sons, Griffin D. and Jacob K. Strain; brother, J. Kyle (Theresa) Schrink; nieces, Alicia M. and Riley M. Schrink, and aunt, Sherri Spall.
Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16th St., Speedway.
