The state's second-longest serving justice will officially retire from the Indiana Supreme Court Friday.

Justice Brent Dickson is stepping down from the bench after 30 years. He will be honored at 1 p.m. Friday with a retirement ceremony, which will be webcast live.

Dickson was appointed to the Indiana Supreme Court in January 1986 by Gov. Robert Orr after serving as a general practitioner in Lafayette.

Gov. Mike Pence has yet to name his successor on the bench. He has until May 11 to decide whether St. Joseph Superior Judge Steven Hostetler, Boone Superior Judge Matthew Kincaid orTaft Stettinius & Hollister LLP partner Geoffrey Slaughter should become the state's next justice.
