Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law librarian Susan David deMaine is being recognized nationally for her work in library sciences.

The Hoosier is one of three law librarians who will receive the 2016 Emerging Leader Award from the American Association of Law Libraries. The award recognizes newer AALL members who have made significant contributions to the association and/or law librarianship and who have demonstrated potential for leadership and continuing service.

“I am honored that AALL sees my work as deserving of this recognition,” deMaine said. “I enjoy being a member of AALL and am proud to help further the Association’s advocacy, educational and professional goals.”

DeMaine, assistant director of information services at the IU McKinney’s Ruth Lilly Law Library, joined the library staff of the Indianapolis law school in 2011. She teaches legal analysis, research and communication, and legal research, and serves as a faculty research liaison along with facilitating the Faculty Writer’s Circle.

Also, she is a member of the inaugural class of the Indiana Library Leadership Academy of the Indiana State Library. She received her M.S.L.S. and J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Kentucky.

DeMaine, along with Sarah E. M. Lin of Reed Smithy LLP in San Francisco and Andrew M. Winston at the Law Library of Congress, will be recognized at the 109th AALL Annual Meeting and Conference in Chicago July 16 through 19.

AALL president Keith Ann Stiverson said the three honorees were chosen for “both their contributions to our profession and for the admirable leadership potential they’ve shown including their service to the association.”
