The Indianapolis Star cites court records in reporting that Ali Al-Awadi intended to appeal.
Al-Awadi was convicted early this year on three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt handed down a 27-year prison sentence for Al-Awadi in June. Once he is freed, he would also be subject to 15 years of supervised release.
Al-Awadi still faces other charges as well.
