About 400 court appointed special advocate volunteers will gather Monday at the Indiana Statehouse joined by Indiana Justice Steven David to highlight the program’s efforts and talk with lawmakers about issues facing children involved in the child welfare system. The gathering also aims to increase volunteers to meet the needs of thousands of Hoosier children.

CASA volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children whose families are involved with the child welfare system, and Monday’s program also will include remarks from a former foster youth from Lake County. The gathering will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at in the Capitol’s North Atrium.

More than 4,000 CASA volunteers in 79 Indiana counties last year advocated for nearly 27,000 children, but needs remain. More than 6,000 children are waiting for a CASA, and the goal of the gathering is to draw attention to the need for more volunteers.
