The Council on Legal Education Opportunity, or CLEO, has announced it will participate in today’s Giving Tuesday celebration, an annual event meant to kick off the season of holiday donations. The organization, which will mark its 50th anniversary in 2018, offers programs such as an annual pre-law summer residential workshop to encourage people from racial and ethnic minorities and low-income homes to pursue legal careers.
“Since 1968, more than 10,000 individuals have benefitted from CLEO programs, many of whom now work in all fields of the legal profession,” CLEO CEO Cassandra Sneed Ogden said in a statement.
Locally, the Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity recently marked its 20th anniversary in August. During those 20 years, ICLEO has helped more than 500 low-income or minority students prepare for a legal career through workshops, networking opportunities and scholarships, Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush said during an August celebration.
The national CLEO organization will mark its 50th anniversary next year with receptions, workshops, seminars and a gala in Washington, D.C. Additionally, the organization said it will focus on championing its CLEO EDGE – Education, Diversity, and Greater Equality – program in the coming year.
