South Bend police Chief Scott Ruszkowski had earlier sent a letter to the city’s Board of Public Safety requesting officer Justin Gorny’s termination .
The board, which was tasked with reviewing the case, made its decision in Wednesday.
Gorny wasn’t charged. He recently had a two-day disciplinary hearing in front of the board, where he said he believed he was acting safely and had control of his vehicle.
Police have said that Gorny was driving about 90 mph while responding to a reckless driver call when he ran a red light July 20 and crashed into a car, killing 22-year-old Erica Flores.
