Focused on programming, networking and business development opportunities specifically tailored to this large group of attorneys, the division will aim to give solo and small firm practitioners a home within the IndyBar.
Starting with the 2020 membership year, the Solo/Small Firm Division will be available as an add-on to IndyBar membership to select on the membership or renewal forms. The remainder of 2019 will be spent planning initial offerings for the division and its members.
Solo/small firm practitioners are no strangers to the particular issues that come with being a business owner, marketer, accountant and so on. Current Solo/Small Firm Committee chair Alex Limontes says that the new division will help attorneys in the solo/small setting develop and maintain strong strategies for executing those separate roles through creative programming and tools focusing on law practice development and management.
“As a solo or small firm practitioner, your clients (and everyone that works at your office) often rely on you, and this brings a completely new set of considerations into the mix of your practice. No longer can you simply clock in and clock out as a lawyer, but you also have many other responsibilities in addition to practicing law,” Limontes says.
2020 division members can also look forward to partnerships with other IndyBar sections and divisions to address concerns within specific practice areas or other demographics. Plans are in the works to offer events and seminars focused on financial wellness as well as mental and physical wellness.
“Ultimately, the launch of the Solo/Small Firm Division will give solo and small firm practitioners an even bigger voice within the IndyBar, which can lead to so many opportunities. Regardless of whether you’re looking for leadership, business or personal development opportunities, Solo/Small Firm Division members will hopefully feel a sense of belonging to something they helped create,” Limontes adds.
Current Solo/Small Firm Committee leadership is in the process of developing the division’s bylaws and structure for the executive committee, and they’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers! If you’d like to serve on the executive committee, help plan programming, or share any additional ideas for the new Solo/Small Firm Division, they’d love for you to get involved.
