Subscribe NowThe Indiana Supreme Court last week appointed a pair of senior judges to serve as judges pro tempore in St. Joseph Superior Court while a panel works to fill open positions on the Superior Court bench.
Senior Judge Jeanene Calabrese has been assigned to the position vacated by retired Judge David C. Chapleau in Superior Court 6, and Senior Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura will take the place of soon-to-be retired Judge Steven Hostetler in Superior Court 7.
St. Joseph County’s new judges are being selected by a seven-member panel chosen by Gov. Eric Holcomb and the county commissioners. The panel is chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter.
Chapleau, now a senior judge, retired July 15. The deadline for applications for the opening was Aug. 16, and a list of the top five nominees are expected to be publicly announced sometime this month.
Hostetler, who retires effective Sept. 3, was granted senior judgeship last week. The Indiana Supreme Court said the St. Joseph Judicial Nominating Commission intends to make the application for his vacancy available in the coming weeks.
Calabrese’s order is effective Aug. 31, and Bonaventura will begin serving as judge pro tempore starting Sept. 7. Their appointments will remain in effect pending further order of the Supreme Court.
