An Indianapolis drug dealer was sentenced to over 15 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl while serving on community corrections, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Clifton Withers, 49, was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In Jan. 2020, Withers was sentenced and placed on home detention by Marion County Community Corrections after being convicted of dealing in a narcotic drug.

While serving on community corrections, Withers rented two storage units in Indianapolis.

That May, officers conducted a court-authorized search of his storage units and found approximately 250 grams of fentanyl, digital scales, handgun holsters and several boxes of ammunition. They also found nine firearms in the units.

In his vehicle, they found more fentanyl, digital scales and a handgun.

Because of his status as a convicted felon, Withers cannot legally possess a firearm.

He has four felony drug trafficking convictions dating back to 1997.

“Fentanyl poisoning takes lives and devastates families in all zip codes and walks of life. Traffickers pose even more danger to our communities when they are heavily armed. Thanks to the outstanding work of our partners at the ATF and our federal prosecutors, the defendant’s career of armed drug trafficking has been halted for many years to come,” said Zachary Myers, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, in a news release.
