Allen Superior Court Judge David Avery announced his intent to retire at the end of this year in May.
Avery has served on the bench for 24 years. He was appointed by Gov. Frank O’Bannon in 2000 and then re-elected four times.
The commission is led by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Christopher Goff.
Following the interviews the commission will publicly selected three finalists for the position and send the names to Gov. Eric Holcomb for consideration. Holcomb will have 60 days to select Avery’s successor.
The person appointed will serve the remainder of Avery’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2028.
The interviews will be held in Courtroom 107 at the Allen County Courthouse, 715 S. Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne on Sept. 25. The interviews are open to the public.

8:45 a.m. – 9 a.m. – Public Session to honor Judge David Avery
9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – Kevin Mitchell
9:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Magistrate Judge Brian D. Cook
10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. – David M. Lutz
10:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. – Michael A. Barranda
11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Magistrate Judge Jason C. Custer
12 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Magistrate Judge Michael Douglass
