In summary fashion, the film follows a robot named Roz who is shipwrecked on a deserted island. In the process, she finds a way to build a relationship with the skeptical animals that occupy the island. This includes a hatched gosling that views Roz as his mother.
Lupita Nyong’o dominates the film as the voice of Roz. She previously won an Oscar for her role in “12 Years a Slave” (2013) and is unforgettable in “A Quiet Place: Day One” (2024).
Here you watch Roz regenerate as she recovers from washing up on an island. You will be left with a constant smile on your face as you watch her relationships with Fink (Pedro Pascal), a conniving fox, and an assortment of geese, beavers, possums and an initially nasty grizzly bear.
However, it is Roz’s relationship with Brightbill (Kit Connor), the tiny gosling, that will make this movie unforgettable. She needs the help of a possum mother to help train Brightbill to fly to join a migration where a flock of geese fly away to avoid dying in the winter chill.
Wait until you see the two of them wave goodbye. Take some tissues with you when you buy a ticket.•
