Indiana Court of Appeals Senior Judge Margret G. Robb was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal for her contributions to advancing the legal profession.
Robb was celebrated during the Council of Chief Judges annual conference in Monterey, California on Nov. 15.
A 1978 magna cum laude graduate of the Indiana University McKinney School of Law, Robb was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals in 1998 by then-Gov. Frank O’Bannon.
In 2011, she was named chief judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals, the first woman to hold that position on the court. Robb was appointed a senior judge with the court in 2023.
She was named president of the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal in 2019.
The council’s current president, Judge Mark Pfeiffer, commended Robb for her efforts to give back to the communities the conference visited, even starting a book drive that’s become a hallmark of the organization’s community outreach.
In addition to her work with the council, Robb was cited for her significant contributions to uplifting judges nationwide, particularly her female co-workers.
In 2004, Robb chaired the National Association of Women Judges’ annual conference and in 2016, she co-chaired the education committee of the International Association of Women Judges Biennial Conference in Washington D.C.
She told the Indiana Lawyer in an email, “I was incredibly honored, but the honor is reflection of the entire organization. Ideas are only good if people are open to trying new things to serve the organization’s mission. Without hesitation that describes this group. They motivated me to be the best I could be. They also motivated me to be sure I tried to give more than I received. What goes around comes around.”
