Judge Stephen Scheele was appointed by Gov. Eric Holcomb to the Indiana Court of Appeals in December.
Commission chairperson Justice Mark Massa announced that applications will be accepted until Feb. 10 at noon to fill the Lake County vacancy left by Scheele’s appellate court appointment.
The vacancy is in the civil division.
According to Indiana Code, to be qualified to serve as a judge on the Lake County Superior Court, a person must be a resident of Lake County, a citizen of the United States, and admitted to the practice of law in Indiana.
The commission will be interviewing candidates on Feb. 21.
Following the public interviews, the commission will publicly vote on a panel of five nominees to send to Gov. Mike Braun for appointment.
