Indianapolis-based Proteus Discovery Group, a leading eDiscovery and legal services provider, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month. The company, founded in 2015 by four Indianapolis Bar Association members – Jon Mattingly, Ray Biederman, Hamish Cohen, and Sean Burke – has grown significantly over the past decade, establishing itself as a trusted partner for law firms and legal teams across the country. These four partners also founded MBCB Law Firm on the same day.

A Commitment to Indianapolis and the Midwest

Proteus’s story is deeply intertwined with the legal community of Indianapolis. The four founding partners, all of whom hail from Indiana, share a strong commitment to serving the Midwest legal market. Their expertise in eDiscovery and legal services has been instrumental in helping law firms and legal teams in the region navigate the ever-evolving legal landscape.

Founding Partners’ Involvement with IndyBar

Beyond providing eDiscovery and legal services, the founding partners of Proteus Discovery Group have been actively involved with the Indianapolis Bar Association (IndyBar) since the firm’s inception. Notably, two of the partners, Sean Burke and Ray Biederman, have played a leading role in the IndyBar’s eDiscovery section. Sean Burke currently serves as the section chair, while Ray Biederman recently held the position of immediate past chair.

Their dedication to IndyBar extends beyond leadership roles. Both Sean and Ray are frequent speakers and participants at IndyBar events and hosted CLEs, sharing their knowledge and expertise with fellow legal professionals. This active engagement with the IndyBar reflects Proteus’s commitment to fostering a strong legal community in Indianapolis.

Proteus Discovery Group’s Continued Growth and Commitment

As Proteus celebrates its 10th anniversary, the company looks forward to continuing its growth and serving the legal community coast to coast. Its 2024 acquisition of Novitas Data, an eDiscovery and scanning services legal provider, has bolstered Proteus’s portfolio and added an additional office to the company in Portland, OR. And in spring of 2025, Proteus will move its corporate headquarters to the Indianapolis SalesForce tower.

With this team of experienced professionals and a dedication to providing innovative solutions, Proteus Discovery Group is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of law firms and legal teams in the years to come.•
