The commission, which is chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Mark Massa, interviewed five candidates on Feb. 21. After publicly deliberating the commission publicly voted on the five finalists.
According to Indiana law, the commission is required to submit to the governor “the five most highly qualified candidates” for appointment when a vacancy arises. Upon receiving the list, Gov. Mike Braun has 60 days in which to make an appointment to the Lake Superior Court.
The following are finalists for the Lake County judicial vacancy:
- Lake Circuit Court Referee Daniel Burke Jr.
- Lake Superior Court Magistrate Judge Katherine Garza
- Indiana Board of Tax Review Administrative Law Judge Natasha Ivancevich
- Angela Marie Jones, Founding Attorney of The Law Office of Angela M. Jones LLC
- Lake Superior Court Magistrate Judge Shaun Olsen
