Indiana State Sen. Eric Koch is joining Gutwein Law, helping the firm expand to Bloomington where he had a solo practice.

“I am thrilled to join this innovative firm,” Koch said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to bringing my diverse experience and client base to an already extraordinary law firm. This move allows me to continue offering high-quality legal counsel, now with the added support, resources, and depth of Gutwein Law’s skilled team.”

Koch, a Republican, previously practiced at his solo law firm in Bloomington and Bedford. His practice area include corporate law, real estate law, estate planning, and commercial litigation.

He is a registered civil mediator, and has also received an Energy Policy Planning certification and Community Bank Director’s certification.

“Eric is a fantastic addition to our growing firm,” Stuart Gutwein, managing partner at Gutwein Law said in a news release. “His impressive resume and track record – both as an attorney and public servant – is invaluable to both our clients and team. We are grateful to have him on board.”

Gutwein Law has three offices in the Hoosier state: Lafayette, Indianapolis and Evansville. The law firm plans to maintain office space in Bloomington, where Koch has been well established. Koch will also spend time in the Indianapolis office.

Koch earned his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law and joined the state bar in 1989.

He served in the Indiana House of Representatives before being elected to the state Senate in 2016. Koch currently serves as chairman of the Senate Utilities Committee, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary and Commerce & Technology Committees and member of the Senate Corrections & Criminal Law Committee.

Koch also currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
