Changes may be coming to the rules governing Alternative Dispute Resolution in Indiana. The Supreme Court is seeking comment on two proposed changes: amending Rule 2.7 to add a section that would let a non-attorney mediator complete certain documents as part of the mediation process without violating the rules governing the unauthorized practice of law; and adding a new rule that would allow a mediator to provide legal information, but not legal advice to parties, without violating the rules governing the unauthorized practice of law.

Comments are due June 7, 2009, and may be sent to Lilia G. Judson, Executive Director, Indiana Supreme Court Division of State Court Administration, 30 S. Meridian St., Suite 500, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or to [email protected].

More details about the specific proposed rule changes can be found at http://www.courts.in.gov/rules/proposed.
