The Federal Rules of Evidence have been amended in hopes of lessening the skyrocketing costs of discovery. As a result of President George W. Bush signing S. 2450 Sept. 19, Federal Rule of Evidence 502 will limit waivers of attorney-client privilege and work-product protection in the disclosure information in federal court proceedings or to a federal public office or agency.
The new law takes affect immediately. More information about the new rule can be found on the U.S. District Court Northern District's Web site.
