The Marion Superior Court’s Juvenile Detention Center is hosting a series of domestic violence workshops today for children detained in the facility. This is the first time the center has hosted this conference.

The conference began at 10 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. Representatives from domestic violence and sexual assault prevention organizations, law enforcement, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and faith-based organizations will lead discussion on various topics, including healthy relationships, bullying, and stalking.

Faith-based nonprofit Not 2 Believers Like Us, which focuses on education, prevention, and breaking the cycle of domestic and family violence, is sponsoring the program. DeShane Reed, superintendent of the detention center, said that violence is a part of many of the detainees’ lives and since October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to provide lessons on the topic.
