Melina Kennedy left her law practice at Baker & Daniels LLP on December 31, 2010, to run for Mayor of Indianapolis as a Democratic candidate in the 2011 elections. Before joining Baker & Daniels in February 2007, Kennedy spent more than a decade in public service and legal practice. She served in Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson’s administration as director of economic development from 2001-04 and deputy mayor from 2004-05.
Voyles to be Honored with Buchanan Award
2009 Indianapolis Bar Association President James H. Voyles Jr. will be awarded with the IndyBar’s prestigious Hon. Paul H. Buchanan Jr. Award of Excellence at a luncheon in his honor on February 17, 2011 at the Hilton Indianapolis.
The prestigious Buchanan Award is named in honor of the Hon. Paul H. Buchanan Jr. and “shall be given from time to time, as is determined to be appropriate, to a member of the Association whose attainments as a lawyer have been notable, whose contributions to the Association have been unique and whose honorable service to the profession has extended over a significant period of time. The award shall be given both to reward those accomplishments and to inspire others to such service,” according to the selection criteria. The presidents and boards of directors of the Indianapolis Bar Association and Indianapolis Bar Foundation will be installed at the 2011 Installation Luncheon on Wednesday, January 19 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Conrad Indianapolis.
