Deputy Attorney General Michelle Bumgarner, a graduate of the law school, was admitted to the bar Dec. 17, according to the Indiana Roll of Attorneys. She will draw on her personal experience as a domestic-violence survivor in her new role.
The AG’s office offers many options for support and services to victims, including updates and information about the criminal appeals process, resources and referrals to other service providers, and information on how to set up a confidential P.O. Box for victims of domestic violence who have moved out of their homes.
Bumgarner’s new job will include studying the current programs and looking for ways to improve them while meeting the requirements of the federal Victims of Crime Act grant, a funding source for the victim advocacy programs she will oversee.
Bumgarner has succeeded former director Mellisica Flippen, who was in that position for several years and recently left for another job, said Bryan Corbin, public information officer for the AG’s office.
