James Bellamy appeals the Marion Superior Court’s finding that he was in direct contempt by arriving nearly an hour late for his scheduled bench trial after he had been previously warned that he would be found in contempt if he was late for court proceedings. Bellamy was on trial for Class A misdemeanor trespass and Class A misdemeanor unauthorized possession of a license or permit.
Bellamy claims as a lay person, he couldn’t be found in direct contempt merely for failing to timely appear at court proceedings.
Judges John Baker, Melissa May, and Cale Bradford will hear the case at 2 p.m. at the Fabiani Theater in University Center at Trine University, 1 University Ave., Angola.
