The merger with Schottenstein Zox & Dunn Co. will be effective at the first of the year and the newly created firm will retain the Ice Miller moniker.
Schottenstein Zox & Dunn, established in 1966, is the fourth-largest Columbus, Ohio-based law firm with nearly 100 attorneys. The firm, which works with businesses and nonprofits, lists Huntington National Bank, Big Lots, and Limited Brands as clients. The combination creates a regional firm of 314 lawyers and 358 staff with offices in Indianapolis, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, DuPage County, Illinois, and Washington, D.C.
“SZD is a preeminent firm with a stellar reputation. Its clients, culture and Midwestern roots are a great fit," said Phil Bayt, Ice Miller's chief managing partner. “This combination just makes sense for our clients and the firm.”
Bayt will continue to be chief managing partner after the firms combine Jan. 1, 2012.
The announcement comes a week after another Indianapolis-based firm, Baker & Daniels, said it is in talks to merge with Minneapolis firm Faegre & Benson.
Ice Miller was established in 1910 and is Indianapolis’ third-largest law firm.
