Subscribe NowSenate Bill 4, legislation introduced to strengthen Indiana’s human trafficking statutes, has passed unanimously in the Senate. Legislators are pushing to make the bill a law before the Super Bowl in Indianapolis Feb. 5.
Currently, Indiana law only prohibits forced marriage and prostitution, but the legislation would make it unlawful to arrange for a person to participate in any forced sexual act.
There is concern that the state could see more human trafficking crimes due to the Super Bowl being in Indianapolis. Other states that have hosted the Super Bowl have reported an influx of human trafficking around the event.
The bill has been assigned to the House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code.
