The change comes following a recommendation from the United States Marshals Service.
Visitors may buy beverages once inside the courthouse from vending machines, where available. Only water will be allowed inside courtrooms. Those who buy a drink inside the courthouse, leave, and then want to re-enter will have to dispose of the drink before entering.
Judges may grant exceptions to this policy when appropriate, such as for jurors, and exceptions by security officers may be made when the prohibited item is determined to be necessary for child care, medical or other special needs.
Those who have valid building access cards that allow them to bypass regular security screening will be allowed to carry liquids and beverages into the courthouse.
