Arguments in Jason Palilonis v. State, No. 42A05-1104-CR-197, begin at 2 p.m. CDT April 16 in Wesemann Hall at the law school. Palilonis was convicted in 2009 of raping a fellow Vincennes University student. A year after the rape, the victim committed suicide. Palilonis argues on appeal that the trial court improperly admitted a variety of statements at trial and there wasn’t enough evidence to convict him.
The arguments are part of the COA’s “Appeals on Wheels” program, in which a three-judge panel holds oral arguments around the state to allow Hoosiers to observe the court in action.
Judges Nancy Vaidik, Paul Mathias and Michael Barnes will hear the case. Vaidik is a Porter County native and graduate of Valparaiso University Law School.
