Massa was introduced by Mark Lubbers, an adviser to both Govs. Robert Orr and Mitch Daniels; and he was presented by Scott Newman, former Marion County prosecuting attorney and Indianapolis public safety director. Daniels offered remarks and administered the formal oath of office.
Massa was robed by his parents, Don and Eleanore Massa. The ceremony, an official session of the court, was adjourned briefly and the justices exited. When they returned, Massa was among their ranks.
Massa has been serving as a member of the court since April 2, when he was sworn-in during a private ceremony administered by former Chief Justice Randall Shepard. Massa was named as a justice by Daniels on March 23.
Speaking to the approximately 200 elected officials, judges and court staff, attorneys and guests in attendance, Massa said, “My life has exceeded my dreams. I will know no higher honor than to be selected and sworn by America’s finest governor.”
