Disciplinary Actions – 10/26/12

The Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission brings charges against attorneys who have violated the state’s rules for admission to the bar and Rules of Professional Conduct. The Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications brings charges against judges, judicial officers, or judicial candidates for misconduct. Details of attorneys’ and judges’ actions for which they are being disciplined by the Supreme Court will be included unless they are not a matter of public record under the court’s rules.

Contempt
Susan J. Kriesel, of Marion County, has been ordered to pay $250 for being in contempt of a suspension order and has been suspended indefinitely, per an Oct. 11 order from the Indiana Supreme Court. Kriesel practiced law for more than three years while she was suspended for nonpayment of registration dues and continuing legal education noncompliance.

Kriesel and the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission proposed the sanction the justices imposed. Chief Justice Brent Dickson noted in the disciplinary order that the sanction imposed may have been more severe had there not been an agreement reached with the commission.

Kriesel must pay the $250 within 60 days of Oct. 11. She must cure the causes of all suspensions in effect and pay the fine and other money owed before she can successfully petition for reinstatement.•
