A southern Indiana lawyer who serves as the attorney for Floyd County government faces drunken driving charges after his arrest on Feb 7.

Richard Read Fox, 58, of Floyds Knobs, was arrested in Clarksville shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday. Fox was stopped southbound on Green Tree Boulevard after leaving Roosters Restaurant, according to Indiana State Police. Fox operates a private practice in New Albany.

ISP Sellersburg District Sgt. Jerry Goodin said Fox was stopped for an unspecified traffic infraction, after which a breath test determined his blood-alcohol level to be 0.15 percent. Goodin said Fox was arrested on two Class A misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08.

Fox was admitted to practice in 1987, has no disciplinary history and is listed as active in good standing on the Indiana Roll of Attorneys. Fox unsuccessfully ran on the Republican ticket for judge of newly created Floyd Superior Court 3 in 2008, garnering 46 percent of the vote against Judge Maria Granger.
