Thomas R. Philpot, 55, of Highland, who was convicted in September, was found guilty of taking more than $24,000 from federal funds for child support that he oversaw as clerk. Philpot used the money to pay himself bonuses without authorization from the county council.
Philpot was ordered to surrender to begin serving his sentence on April 3, according to a news release issued by the U.S. attorney for the Northern District. He also will serve two years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence.
Philpot has a law practice in Hammond and has no disciplinary history, according to the Roll of Attorneys.
