Subscribe NowLake County-area bar associations and attorneys across northwest Indiana will team up over the Labor Day weekend to help prepare the room where a 5-year-old girl undergoing cancer treatment will recover upon returning home to St. John, Ind.
The Lake County Bar Association, James C. Kimbrough Bar Association, Hispanic Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association will embark on this “Labor of Love” Saturday morning with the Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation to help prepare the room. The girl is expected to be home in about a week.
Volunteers will do yard work, paint, pull up carpet to prepare for the installation of fresh carpet and freshen up the child’s room, her older sister’s room and surroundings. The goal is to provide as clean and sterile an environment as possible, said Lake County Bar Association executive director Debra White. She said volunteers are working this weekend beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday to accomplish as much as possible before the child’s return.
