The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus had planned to host a public question-and-answer session on Public Law 159-2013 which allows some offenders to have old crimes removed from their records.
Yesterday, Sept. 11, it was announced the forum in Indianapolis had been cancelled and will be rescheduled; however, the date and location of the new event were not available.
Organizers said they wanted to offer another expungement forum because the first forum on Aug. 7, also in Indianapolis, attracted a standing-room only crowd. Rep. Vanessa Summers, D-Indianapolis, described the law as “complicated” and said people need legal help to apply for expungement.
At the September forum, organizers had hoped to have attorneys available to provide free consultations to determine if individuals attending the meeting are eligible to have their records cleaned.
