Subscribe NowIndiana Chief Justice Brent Dickson announced Wednesday that he will step down as chief justice sometime before Sept. 1. Dickson plans on staying on the Supreme Court as an associate justice until he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 75 in July 2016.
Dickson became chief justice in May 2012 after serving as acting chief justice following the retirement of Randall T. Shepard. Dickson joined the court in 1986.
The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission will select the next chief justice, which will serve a five-year term. Justices Robert Rucker, Steven David, Mark Massa and Loretta Rush will be invited to meet with the commission Aug. 6 to discuss the role of chief justice.
