Rush, along with current Chief Justice Brent Dickson, will be among those making brief remarks at the swearing-in ceremony.
Dickson announced earlier this year he would step down as chief justice but remain on the bench until he hits the mandatory retirement age of 75 in July 2016. The Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission selected Rush as chief justice Aug. 6 after holding public interviews with the other four justices.
Rush is the first female chief justice in Indiana and only the second woman to serve on the state’s highest court. Rush was sworn in as an associate justice in December 2012.
The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. in the Supreme Court Law Library in the Statehouse. Gov. Mike Pence will administer the oath of office.
