Subscribe NowIndiana Tech Law School has created the endowed Sara Vaughn Gabbard Scholarship which will award two law students a scholarship for participating in and winning an annual Abraham Lincoln writing competition organized by the school.
Recipients of the prize will be distinguished as Gabbard Lincoln Scholars, and the scholarship will be awarded to the students who place first and second.
Gabbard is the executive director of the Friends of the Lincoln Collection of Indiana and is a nationally recognized Lincoln scholar. Friends and colleagues of Gabbard established the scholarship in appreciation and admiration of her years of outstanding service to Fort Wayne and Abraham Lincoln “communities,” according to the law school.
“As Abraham Lincoln is one of our nation’s great lawyers, it is fitting that a scholarship named after the esteemed Ms. Gabbard and the Friends of the Lincoln Collection, would invite students to honor President Lincoln in essay with a cash prize awarded to the students who fulfill this opportunity best,” Interim Dean andré douglas pond cummings said. “Through this endowed scholarship, our students will have the chance to offset some of the cost of their legal education by honoring President Lincoln, while simultaneously thanking Sara Gabbard for her groundbreaking work in remembering his legacy.”
