Green, Madison, St. Joseph and Vanderburgh counties seek to add at least one judge or magistrate to their Superior or Circuit courts.
The committee also will discuss whether a father who has abandoned a birth mother during pregnancy should be required to consent to the adoption of the child.
The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Senate Chamber. The committee is chaired by Rep. Greg Steuerwald, R-Avon. Its next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
But before the judiciary study committee begins, Steuerwald will be taking a look at code revision. He chairs the Code Revision Commission, which also meets for the first time Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in Room 233 of the Statehouse.
The commission will consider proposed technical corrections and substantive problems in the Indiana Code. Commission members will also discuss two projects: the Incorrect Federal Citations Project and the Indiana Code History Line Project.
