Former U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett is hours away from an announcement at which he's expected to launch his bid for Indianapolis mayor.

Hogsett has scheduled an announcement for Wednesday evening at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on the city's near north side. Former U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh, other Democratic officials and supporters will join him at the event.

Hogsett resigned as the top federal prosecutor for central and southern Indiana at the end of July after four years in the position.

State Rep. Ed DeLaney has already started a campaign for the Democratic mayoral nomination.

Republican Mayor Greg Ballard announced last week that he won't seek a third term next year as the leader of Indiana's largest city, saying it's time for him to move on.
