A 35-year-old Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for using a shotgun to kill another Indianapolis man in Henry County.

Edward Thompson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 22-year-old Zackery Soots. On Thursday, a judge in New Castle ordered a 45-year prison sentence with eight years suspended for Thompson, followed by eight years of probation.

Thompson shot Soots three times with a shotgun last February and then threw his body off a bridge. Soot's body was found April 13 in Montgomery Creek in western Henry County.

The Star Press in Muncie reported Thompson told the victim's family Thursday that he prays they eventually will forgive him.
