Gov. Mike Pence on Tuesday signed House Enrolled Act 1145 that gives immunity from lawsuits to licensed medical professionals when they are performing basic treatments for free after registering with the state. They also must notify patients of the legal protection.
The new law taking effect July 1 will cover medical workers, including physicians, physician assistants, dentists, nurses and optometrists.
Pence said the law will help encourage doctors and others to volunteer their services.
