Former Marion Superior Judge Robert R. Altice Jr. was sworn in as a judge on the Indiana Court of Appeals Wednesday by Chief Justice Loretta Rush, the court said in a statement.

Altice, the first appellate court appointee selected by Gov. Mike Pence, took the oath in a private ceremony in the Court of Appeals courtroom. He was accompanied by his wife, Kristin, and spoke briefly afterward to his new colleagues and staff. He succeeds Judge Ezra H. Friedlander, who has retired.

A formal robing ceremony for Altice will take place Sept. 21 in the Indiana Supreme Court courtroom. The invitation-only event will start at 2 p.m. and be webcast live and recorded for public viewing.
