Changes to local rules of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana take effect Friday and include changes to filing and maintaining documents under seal.

Amendments increase the time a clerk has to unseal a case or document form 14 to 21 days.

In addition, Local Criminal Rule 12-1 – Authority of United States Magistrate Judges – will be renumbered to Local Criminal Rule 58-1 and amended in its entirety. The court notes it is a technical amendment and the local rule will now achieve consistency with Fed. R. Crim. P. 58 – Petty Offenses and Other Misdemeanors.

Local Rule 4-6(i) – Representation of Indigent Litigants – was amended to allow for an attorney to request pre-approval for additional funds to cover expenses in exceptional circumstances.

Read the complete rule amendments on the court’s website.
