Indianapolis partner Robert J. Hicks will be the next firm-wide managing partner at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, the firm announced Tuesday.

His move will be official Jan. 1, 2017, and he will succeed Thomas Terp, who will complete 10 years as a managing partner at the firm at the end of the year.

Hicks was an unopposed candidate to the position who emerged after a vetting process designed by the firm’s succession plan committee. He has served as partner-in-charge of Taft’s Indianapolis office and has been a member of the executive committee at the firm since 2008.

He will continue his merger and acquisitions practice and his civic and community activities, the firm said in a press release.

“Bob and I have worked together for several years in the management and growth of the firm. His management experience with a large, international finance company, coupled with his involvement in the management of our firm for the past several years, makes him uniquely qualified to lead the firm going forward,” Terp said in a press release.

During Terp’s 10 years as managing partner, Taft has grown from 200 attorneys to more than 400.
